MAKKAH CAFÉ ! - A sip back in time........
Just imagine sipping away in time with a cup of preeminent “Sulaimani” tea into the old rusty lanes of Bangalore?
For experiencing this corybantic feeling you need to visit this old world charm place tucked in Johnson market at Richmond Road of Bangalore.
History says that during the 1920s the British had occupied few horse stables there and since then the Johnson market comes into existence and the Makkah cafe subsequently.
Peeking out of a recklessly bustling crowd this cafe has made its name for serving one of the best iconic items in Bangalore.
Well just a disclaimer this place doesn’t ideally offer what a normal cafe generally does. Rather a narrow shabby lane which houses this one roomed olden tea room which has passed its prime along in years.
As u walk past the arches you would find the tea room open in front of you.
And if you’re are still confused then spot the cashier seated surrounded by heaps of baked and fried stuff. There you are!
Mostly people would be fluttering all over the place either for the refreshing tea or for other refreshments such as the irresistible "Khowa Dilpasand" or their appetizing "samosas"!
You may stand outside and enjoy your tea watching out on people heaping together to grab off the piping hot nooks or you can also sit inside and enjoy your tidbits
Choice is yours!
I chose to stand outside and absorb the hurl-burly vibe of the place and ended up having nothing less than 3 cups of Sulaimani tea! Thought of pairing it up with their famous chicken samosa And the taste was definitely out of the world!
their khowa dil pasand will literally melt in your mouth. As flaky and as reducing as it could be with shreds of coconut and crumbs of khowa swinging in your mouth. Absolutely a hot-spicy-sweet taste triangle match made in heaven!
Given the way this city roars it is definitely a challenge for this itsy-bitsy place to stand tall amongst the cravings of youth who prefer ambience and Boba tea over such elementary, cluttered yet aesthetic places.
But if you are one of those who shares a romantic affair with horse and buggy days, just like me then it is definitely the place for you!
Sometimes it’s good to get absorbed into the back country vibe amidst the lively crowd clattering and bantering around over cups of tea and quick bites with some loud talk fest mingled with strong aromas of fried somosas and bubbling tea!
Wow a flashing tour to a snippet from a classic 70s evening.
I would rather call this as the old world Makkah Cacophony!
